And while you see many that abuse their list or make big mistakes (I've made plenty myself), rarely do you see it brought out in such a public forum like the Presidential election.

So, Jeb Bush sent out an email last week stating that for a $25 contribution, he'll not email you for the rest of the year.

You can see the email here.

All in an effort to save you on the pesky email traffic over the holidays.

Look, Jeb is screwed – there's no way he's making any headway in this election.

I'm not worried about Jeb though.

I'm worried about you.

And what you can do to make your email marketing work for you if you're building a coaching business, a local business, or your trying your hand at some affiliate marketing.

Here's 3 Simple Tips to help you…

Offer A Value Based Lead Magnet

Instead of saying – “hey up a sign up for my newsletter”, instead give something of value.

This can be a report, a video series, a tutorial – just something that can help to advance your readers to the next level.

You'll see how I've changed my blog over the last few weeks to do just that and it's made a huge difference in terms of new leads.

And this applies to more than the digital, internet marketing space too.

So, let's use an example outside of the Internet Marketing world.

Let's suppose you have a gym. – what would be a good lead magnet?

Here's some ideas –

5 Foods That Melt Fat in 10 Days or

7 Steps To Lose 10 Pounds in 30 Days.

3 Simple Exercises To Bigger Biceps in 2 Weeks

You get the idea here.

Super simple stuff that can be delivered with a video on a page or a pdf in your followup email.

Don't be afraid to communicate

Too many people are scared.

Scared to send an email.

Afraid it's going to upset the person that signed up to begin with.

Stop it.

Now, I'm not saying spam the hell outta someone.

That'd be weird.

Instead focus on providing value.

Realize thought that even with the best intentions and the best content, you're going to ruffle a few feathers.

It's part of it – there's no way to please everyone so don't even try it.

Take people behind the scenes and into your world.

Let them see you on camera if possible.

Show them results.

And you'll see that you'll have a following of people that start to know, like and trust you that will go to bat for you no matter what.

If you're afraid to mail, then all of a sudden pop in and shoot an email, it's like “who's this guy?”

Get them accustomed to seeing you in their inbox.

Spread the Love

Instead of just focusing on email, share the love by communicating through other platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube.

This does a couple of things.

First of all, some will prefer to connect with other applications and gives another view into your world that's not threatening, and not always selling.

Secondly, it gives you the option to retarget your audience with Facebook and Youtube Ads.

This way – you're everywhere.

You're in the inbox, you're in the Facebook feed, you're in Youtube videos.

You're everywhere.

By the way, if you enjoyed this article considering giving the Facebook page a like, follow me on Twitter, and joining the Inner Circle.

It's good stuff that will help you get more traffic and make more money

I just read an interesting article regarding the Obama campaign's email marketing strategy – you can find it here – http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-11-29/the-science-behind-those-obama-campaign-e-mails

Like the guy or not (I personally voted for Romney), it's important to study what's working in other markets and from our competitors, and clearly he had a better campaign strategy than that of the Republican party.

Now that the election is over – they have revealed some of the strategies regarding their emails and their success revolves around Testing!

Amelia Showalter, director of digital analytics, says, “We did extensive A-B testing not just on the subject lines and the amount of money we would ask people for, but on the messages themselves and even the formatting.”

In the article, they claim ugly highlighted links outperformed the pretty graphics and that plugging in some mild swearing also worked wonders.

She continued to say – “Every time something really ugly won, it would shock me: giant-size fonts for links, plain-text links vs. pretty ‘Donate’ buttons. Eventually we got to thinking, ‘How could we make things even less attractive?’ That’s how we arrived at the ugly yellow highlighting on the sections we wanted to draw people’s eye to.”

The campaign is to be studied as they contributed this to raising the bulk of the $690 million dollars from the online contributions.

Email marketing is a huge part of our business and if you're not building a list, then you need to do so by starting today. It's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Also, I recently published an email marketing strategy to keep more customers that you can find here

Lastly I encourage you to read the article here.

Whether you like it or not, when you're building your email lists the fact remains that you're going to have unsubscribes..

You could do everything right, never offend anyone, and kiss your customer's ass, but you'll still get 'em…

Think about what cell phone carriers like AT&T, Tmobile or Verizon – what happens when they get you as a subscriber?

They do everything they can to keep you. Well your campaigns should be no different.

So this is my official Email Marketing Save Strategy to Keeping More Of Your Lists that I'm currently in the process of implement and thought you'd benefit. I made a short video tutorial on how this works that you can watch here –

I only discuss Aweber in the video since that's what most people are using, however I'm pretty sure that Getresponse and Constant Contact have the same function..

So, here's the breakdown on how to do this..

Step # 1 – Create a simple 1- 2 minute Video explaining your new VIP List. (Again I used a simple Powerpoint 1 slide with me talking.. I explained that I understood they were trying to clean up their email list and didn't blame them and that is why I'm wanting to invite them to my special VIP lists) I use a screen capture software like Camtasia.

Step # 2 – Create a Graphic Like I did here –

Step #3 – Create the new VIP list in Aweber.

Step #4 – Create a Simple Landing Page that Looks like this in Optimize Press.

Step # 5 – Go to your List Settings Tab in Aweber and Set the Company Name, Website URL to your landing page that you created in Step # 4 and Upload Your Image from Step # 2 like we did here –

Finally, set the automation rules so that once someone subscribes to your VIP list, they're removed from all the other lists.

And once you do that you will convert your unsubscribe page. Take a look at the before and afters –

I strongly believe this will keep more subscribers because the image takes up the majority of the page and because the quicker you can get them to click off of the page – the better chance you'll have at retaining them.

Lastly, I highly recommend getting Aweber to use as your email autoresponder.

What are your thoughts? Do you currently have an Email Save Strategy? Let me know your thoughts below…
