Keyword Research For Selecting The Right Niche

Hey there..

Today I'm going to share with you one of the most valuable nuggets to your internet marketing business.

One of the more frequent questions I get revolves around keyword research and selecting the right niche.  Do this wrong and you're screwed.

Get it right and you'll enjoy the traffic that can pay you a huge ROI setting you up with real passive income…

Even though this is one of the basic fundamentals, I see every day where more and more people are really messing up just by market selection.  And it's really easy to do…

Even yours truly has “screwed the pooch” on multiple occasions.

But these are the top 3 mistakes I see marketers making-

  1. Going after markets with very low search volume.
Even if you crack the top spot in Google, you'll make very little due to the fact that there's so few searches.
  2. Going after markets that are waaayyy too competitive.
These are the markets that have established authority sites and while you still can rank, it's more of a long term approach.
  3. Going after markets that have little to no money.
These are the markets with freebie seekers that have no intent on buying.

So, I whipped up a video tutorial on how I go about doing my own keyword research, the tools I use.  So this is the first part and I will upload part 2 in a day or two.  Let me know your comments and questions below –

Again, I use Market Samurai  – it's the best tool I've found on the market

Thanks Robert. Obviously I believe free is better however I use paid traffic initially to test these factors –
    1. To verify the market is actually getting the number of searches Google says. Google’s numbers are wrong the majority of the time, so I wanna see what the real numbers are. Buying ads on bing is super cheap and can give you a rough idea what kind of traffic is really there. I know if I’m getting descent volumes in Yahoo and Bing, then Google will pay off since there’s so much more traffic.
    2. To see if the traffic converts
There is no worse of a feeling to get a number one ranking, then see your site get 5 clicks per day or that the traffic is not buying your widget.

That’s simply not going to cut it.

Once we see the campaign is getting traffic and conversions are descent, then we’re off to the races.

Hello Derek,
I watched your video for Market Samurai (which I do own), and you have made things a lot clearer to me when I’m using this tool. Thanks for the info and I’m waiting for the follow up video.
Thanks Again

Thanks Mark! I’ve used Market Samurai for years and it took a while to learn the ins and outs of everything it will do. I’ve tested just about every other keyword tool and this is by far my favorite. Will upload the other in a day or two.

Hello Derek,
I have been following you and Anthony for about 4 months and I really like your stuff. One of the things that I would like to become good at is (authority inbound links).
I’ve managed to get my sites in the #1 page of google handling an average of 20K unique visitors per month. But, the inbound link subject is not my forte.

Also, I have bought a couple of your courses but would love to be guided on how to master the inbound link arena.

Thank you very much!

The video is excelent. Well done. By the way,
The link to:
“Page one software and video training”
is going to a 404 error page. Could you give us the correct link?
Thanks,

Hi Derek

Great intro video to Market Samurai, I especially liked the Exact match information which you presented and I must admit I have not properly utilized this myself previously.

I agree with your recommendation that Market Samurai is a great tool that everyone should have in their arsenal and it is really excellent value and is updated by the developers very regularly.
Can’t wait for your next post, keep up the great training, I always look forward to your knowledgeable SEO insights.

Regards
Phil

Great job Derek! I also have some of your products and I use and own Market Samurai myself. I also use The Longtail Pro software tool that a guy named Spencer created and I am sure you probably know him yourself.
Now that I think about it I got the link to this site from a couple of your friends, Mike Long and Kelly Felix from Bring the Fresh. I’m a member over there and at OMG Machines.
I love learning new things, especially when I can make some coin doing it. 🙂

You take care Derek, and thanks again for the great tutorials.
